SIBOWASCO Boosts Water Access with 400 New Meters for Ugunja, Ukwala, and Sega Residents
The Ugunja-Sega-Ukwala water supply project has received 400 DN15 tested dry flow multi-jet meters, along with maintenance tools and fittings for the meters and equipment at the plant.
These resources will support new connections and ensure increased connectivity to the facility while ensuring justified customer billing and satisfaction. On behalf of SIBOWASCO, Technical Manager Kufwoyi Mark Shaban and Production Coordinator Makanda Murasi received the meters from Zhongmei Engineering Group Ltd. The calibrated meters will be distributed to new water consumers in the Ugunja, Ukwala, and Sega schemes in the effort to address no-meter cases and improve service delivery.
The Hareka Plant produces 2,400 cubic meters of water daily, supplying the Ugunja, Sega, and Ukwala areas under SIBOWASCO’s operations. The new project incorporates hydro-turbines, which serve as the primary mechanism for pumping water. These turbines reduce electricity costs, enhance cost-effectiveness, and ensure a consistent water supply to consumers. Standby electric pumps are also available to maintain reliability.
Through this project, SIBOWASCO reaffirms its mission to expand water connections across Siaya County. Concurrently, the company is conducting a customer identification survey using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in parts of Siaya to locate dormant accounts and lines and revive the same.
This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to improve service delivery. The survey and revival process will continue across all SIBOWASCO schemes to ensure reliable and efficient water services for our valued consumers.
